Which Foredom is right for you?

Each of the above models come either bench mount or hanging style.  There are three different speed controls available (two foot pedal options or a dial control), and the bench mount model is available with built-in speed control.

Most Foredom motor units come with a standard 39 inch flexible shaft and sheath.  The above motor series are also available with a HEAVY DUTY 60 inch square drive shaft and sheath, for use ONLY with Foredom HEAVY DUTY Square Drive handpieces.

An economical alternative for beginners seeking the convenience of a flexible shaft machine is to add Prxxon's flexible shaft to one of their rotary devices.  The Proxxon Flexible shaft is designed to fit most of their rotary tools.  For maximum power, this flexible shaft is especially suited for the Proxxon (110-120 Volts) Precision Rotary Tool FBS 115/E and Proxxon (110-120 Volts) Professional Rotary Tool IB/E (detailed above), but it will also fit the lightweight  Proxxon Rotary Tools MICROMOT 50 and 50/E in pen style design/micromotor.  These pen style units are designed for less heavy duty loads than the larger units above.

Foredom specializes in flexible shaft units detailed above under the Flexible Shaft Machines section.  To keep up with industry demands, Foredom also makes micromotors. 

While Foredom micromotors are great quality and value, Ram Products is exclusively a micromotor company.  Their products have been trusted by not only woodcarvers, but also the dental, jewelry, and other industries.  Depending on which model you choose, you may find you get more bang for your buck with a quality Ram Product micromotor.

	Ram Micro-Cad Portable   The microcad portable, is a rechargeable devise.  This unit is great for working taking your work on the road.  While this unit was designed for the medical field, some carvers use this unit for carving show demonstrations.  This unit will run 5 to 7 hours on a single charge.
MICROLAB 350 MICROLAB 450	Ram MICROLAB units     MICROLAB 350 - 35,000 rpm     MICROLAB 450 - 45,000 rpm The Microlab 350 (35,000 rpm) and 450 (45,000 rpm) are Ram Products' most affordable units.  We sell many of these to woodcarvers, all who enjoy them.  The same handpieces available for the MICROLAB units are also available below in the Ram Power kits, their more powerful transform.  The Ram Power line by Ram Products (listed below) uses the same handpieces as the MICROLAB, but the Ram Power has a better transformer, which gives more power to the handpieces and doesn't over heat as quickly.  Choose Ram Power over MICROLAB to avoid overheating with longer more strenuous usage.
Ram Power 35 Ram Power 45	Ram Power     Ram Power 35 - 35,000 rpm     Ram Power 45 - 45,000 rpm The Ram Power 35 (35,000) and Ram Power 45 (45,000 rpm) are more powerful units.  These units cost a little bit more than the MICROLAB, but over the long haul, it is worth the extra investment.  The MICROLAB and the Ram Power units are two of the most popular Ram Product lines for woodcarvers, so choose the one that fits your budget.  When you buy these product lines from MHC, you will receive a 1/8 inch collet in addition to the 3/32 inch collets that come standard with these units for added versatility (EXCEPT for the Slim Nose Handpiece, available for the Ram Power 45 and MICROLAB 45 - The Slim Nose Handpiece will only accept 3/32 inch burs.
	Looking for a more advanced unit?  Get high tech with the options below.
	RAMPRO 500             Uses digital controls with presets, similar to presets on your car radio.  Save that ideal rpm and quickly return to it later.  Primarily used in the medical industry.
	Ram RX300 (Japanese)      Made in Japan to satisfy those who are seeking out a Japanese unit.  Japanese quality motors have a reputation for durability.  While this Ram Products line is more expensive than their conventional models, the extra quality of this unit will amaze you.  The NextGen below is comparable in price to this Japanese model, but also features a brushless designed, similar to Foredom's 1050.
	Ram NextGen (Brushless) Brushless micromotors are all the rage!  The NextGen is a Brushless unit, comparable to Foredom's brushless.  We have equal regard for both the Foredom 1050 and the Ram NextGen.  They are both premium models for the serious carver.  This unit sells for less than Foredom's brushless micromotor, so it might be a way to satisfy your need for a brushless designe without breaking the bank.  Some claim that the bearings in this unit are more durable as well. When you buy this unit through MHC, we include a 1/8 inch collet at no additional charge.  Most companies do not even make this an option.

For a more affordable alternative, consider Proxxon micromotors.  Proxxon units are quality German made products, used by carvers and hobbyist around the world.
