Burnishing, when used by carvers or pyrographers, means compressing the material you are working on the create an irregular surface.
Do not underestimate the value of using burnishing tools to empahsize areas of your work. Burnishing works extremely well with leather as well as wood. The burnishing tool will add a three dimensional or embossed quality to your work.
