It is ideal for small to medium carving projects, working on furniture, reconditioning antiques, lino cutting, delicate paint removal and working on plaster of Paris. The ergonomic design and the light weight (only 1.5 lb) allow to control it very easily with one hand, only. The tool is very safe, as the reciprocating action does not start until the gouge is pressed to the wood.

The unit has a fiberglass reinforced POLYAMIDE casing and features a multiple ball bearing construction in a die-cast aluminum gear housing. It comes with 3 razor sharp bi-metallic knives (each one U, V and flat shape) in a durable plastic case. The SGM also accepts a variety of Flexcut ® reciprocating chisels.
