This tip is the same as the 10-A in shape, but it is about 2 1/2 inches longer in order to reach in those hard to get areas. If you are a solid block carver you will need this pen to reach in under the wings. This pen tip is made out of heavier wire than the 3-AXL.

Many industrial companies use this sturdy hot pen for various uses. Bird carvers favor this pen for burning feather barbs. It is a very popular general purpose hot knife.

This pen was developed by John Fairfield, a talented champion California carver. It is designed to get into intricate places with the curved blade extended and sharpened. It allows the carver to burn sideways with the pen in a horizontal position.
Tip 2B - Detail Master Replaceable Tip for Burning Pen Handpiece - Version 2.0 Replaceable Tip - No handpiece included. This pen is called the Ernie Muehlmatt pen. This pen is about 1/8 inch wide and is curved completely across the top. It allows a push/pull method of burning. It is great for burning reversed curves under legs, wings, and neck.

This pen has the same basic shape as the fine 3-A pen except that is it about 2 1/2 inches long. It can reach into the difficult areas such as, under wings of a solid block bird carving where there are no inserts. Tan Brunet, world champion carver, who carves all of his birds out of a solid wood block, requested a pen of this length.

It allows you to correctly "raise" the shaft. It has a bottom shoe for added strength when depressing the wood fibers. It is about 1/8 inch wide and used on smaller or miniature birds.

With the pen tip rounded, you can move in all directions without snagging the wood. Carvers use t his pen for signing their work and for pressing in the bill wrinkles on a duck. This flat pen is 1/8 inch wide and rounded on front, back and on the corners allowing you to move forward and in side directions. When you pull it towards you a thick line is made, while moving sideways the pen makes a thin line.

Tip 7C - Detail Master Replaceable Tip for Burning Pen Handpiece - Version 2.0 Replaceable Tip - No handpiece included. This is the largest of the round shade pens with a form. It shades a 1/4 inch line away from a rounded edge. Carvers use it for undercut burning and emphasizing feathers before burning the barbs. If you do not paint your birds, this emphasizing of the feathers enhances eye appeal.
Tip 8C - Detail Master Replaceable Tip for Burning Pen Handpiece - Version 2.0 Replaceable Tip - No handpiece included. This 1/4 inch pen is the widest of the 8 series. All of this series are formed (see side view) for easier operation. It can do all the shading of the 8 series only wider. Some carvers use it in a layer feather technique. It is a strong tip for undercutting.
